"Circus Circus sells really quite extraordinarily good food. Currently very, very cheap and, even at the full menu prices, a bargin. Having been once, I have been drawn back on a regular basis, often two days in a row. Over the last few weeks I have worked my way through a considerable chunk of the menu and introduced it to several friends. For the same price as your average fry-up you can enjoy a rather more exotic and, dare I suggest it, healthier meal. I started with a Thai standard - the green chicken curry. It was superb; soupy sauce, loads of chicken and aubergine, a mound of perfect steamed rice and a pile of shredded lettuce to cool the gums. Yes, the food here is authentically spicy as I discovered a few days later when I tried a stir-fry of flat noodles with seafood, which was mind-blowingly fiery. I've tried soups, noodles, stir-fries, green curry, red curry, dry dishes and soupy dishes - all excellent. One day I ordered a starter as well, crispy stuffed wantons, but it was too much food for lunch time so I haven't strayed off the main dishes since.
I love the idea of gastro-pubs but I'm less fond of the astro-prices that so often come with them. Circus Circus may not be gastro-pub, but its doing a lot of things right. And if you don't like it hot, then ask for mild when ordering."
